From Dallas Culture Map
Being that I’ve spent the last eight years of my life in Dallas, I couldn’t exactly let Chanel’s Métiers d’Art take place at Fair Park and not say anything. So as an acquaintance of mine turned down standing room at the show – I found myself thinking was she possessed? Maybe she has a split personality disorder, or was temporarily overcome by a drastic case of  blah I never want to leave the house syndrome. (Note to self and everyone else: always leave the house for Chanel)

So thinking of what one does instead of attending the show when granted the opportunity, I’ve conjured some situations of what one may have done in exchange for that same standing ticket.

1. You actually don’t qualify for standing room, but you've been offered the option to watch the show whilst riding a mechanical bull? Do you accept the offer? (If you fall off you’re out for the night)

 2. Hope the TX DMV taught you well because you can attend the show- just as long you can parallel park with Anna Wintour and Karl sitting gossiping in the backseat.

 3. Just because you can “attend” the show does not mean you have a place to sit. But order in the court room because dependent upon your sweeping up the hay after the show and eating it the subsequent week, you will be granted a golden front row ticket.

So whether we were there or not, technology says the show must go on. I was anxious about Karl's take on Dallas, as there are so many untrue preconceived notions about Texas in general. Fears faded when I saw a cumulation of all of my favorite things: pleated ruffles, denim, oversized statement jewelry, feathers and lots and lots of fringe. The show overall seemed like a revival of both Texas, and American fashion. With a revival of fashion comes a sense of pride and reminder of hey this is who we are. It's often said that fashion reflects the times, and in this case it couldn't be more true. Particularly in Dallas, with a few major lux retailers closing and changes within the consumer mindset, a reminder was necessary and who better to cue memories of your heritage than Lagerfeld. In 1957 Texas opened it's arms to Coco Chanel in the revival of French fashion, and now almost fifty-seven years later, Karl Lagerfeld opens his arms to Texas in the revival of American fashion. I may have been excited with apprehension towards the collection prior to it's debut, but quite simply I love Chanel, and I love Dallas and two things so right could never be wrong.

We had Kanye. We had Drake, so why not finish out fashion month with Jay-Z?

Celine, featuring a primary color palette, with graphic patterns that were loose and free like swift paint brush swipes, as if Philo were learning to color for the first time. Are those tassels dangling about on that black skirt? Are those sandals the ultimate cross between Birkenstocks and lace up espadrilles? We're all about it. The Celine woman is at the helm of Safari Parisian; adventurous, spontaneous, yet always remaining true to a certain aesthetic that is ingrained within her.

"Just let me great, just let me great"
Jay couldn't conjure complete sentences for how great Sacai was, and I don't blame him because amongst feathered shirt dresses, voluminous skirts, cargo belts better than any fanny pack around, and the perfect spurt of muted florals. Spring is looking pretty great.

Jay Z speculating on Valentino reviews, and/or show-goers enthused Instagram captions. We wrote on our comment card that if the ethnic nodes of Dries and the over the top nature of Dolce & Gabbana had a love child, it would be Valentino SS14. The story seemed similar to that of Dries, except it wasn't as varied, Valentino stayed to the point; a point to where it was almost pushed upon the viewer, much like at Dolce & Gabbana.

Since we always ask the hard hitting questions: If Jay-Z is Pablo then who does that make Karl?
Chanel, always so Chanel. Whether it was Jay playing in the background, or the whimsy of the art placed around the runway, this show felt fresh. While still very classic, I wouldn't expect anything less. My favorite look was the one featured in the center, as it was very minimalistic, very modern, but so Chanel.

All in the details. From first glance everything about this show seemed so Chanel, I was not bored of the classic put together glamor that is always displayed, I just yearned for something new. I claimed that  we'd seen this before, and we have. I took a look at the details photos and was of course impressed by the detail and freshness of the accessories, more particularly the bags. The globe, the boucle block bag etc etc. Also: the fur helmets, a yes in my book (or blog in this case)

SLP has me more confused than ever. When Hedi Slimane announced the change from YSL to SLP, it just made me despise him for rebranding a classic brand, who I saw needed no change. I wanted myself not to like the new SLP, as if my distaste would prove anything. This season, sigh I'll admit I liked it for what it is, but THIS IS NOT SAINT LAURENT. In any way shape or fashion, it's not. It had detailed grungy-coolness, like a high fashion free-people. In other news Slimane attempts bringing back the denim-mini. Granted the classic YSL girl was never me, but is this the new SLP girl?

No words. Nun-inspired glamor. Speechless. Sarah Burton summed up Catholicism in only ten looks.
wow.
Basically a walking editorial. Take note: Dots, fur collars, knotted neckties. Also let the platform reign.

For my Creative Fashion Presentations class we've been given the assignment to pick and present about out favorite fashion icon, without disclosing their name or pictures until the end. Here are some collages  I've made inspired by my icon.

Can you guess who it is?

Why carry one miniature hula-hoop Chanel bag when you can have two?

Chanel Pre-Fall is blowing my mind.
The top two looks totally make me want to be a British school girl studying away at St Andrews or Central Saint Martins. The ruffled white collar and the houndstooth tights, make the otherwise boring outfit come to life. The combat boots add that extra ode of edginess. The plaid on plaid, along with a bulky pant tucked in combat boots is a look that I've always been too nervy to try, but here it looks effortlessly cool.

The bottom two looks to me look like they just walked out of a Free People catalog. (I love free people and this is meant in the best way possible) The hair, the soft oversized knits, the fluffy-ruffly skirts, nude on white on peach? SO bohemian pre fall winter chic. and the boots with tall white knitted socks. Perfection at its finest. I can totally see myself wearing these looks.
If only I could afford Chanel.
